Soliloquy and Monologue
by Camille  Kingué

18th April 2026
11am - 2pm

Writing Workshop

The workshop will focus on the soliloquy and monologue forms, and more specifically on the question of address in poetry. It will explore the formulation of an “I” in dialogue with an invisible “you.”

The corpus of texts used will mainly consist of female, queer, and/or racialized authors (Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore, Star Finch, Jenny Holzer, Claudia Rankine).

Taking the framework an enunciative situation from a minoritized subject position, we will look at the way they move back and forth between the interior and the exterior, in a constant dialogue with norms with which one negotiates.

The aim, through writing, is to highlight the inherent presence of the Other in the way certain subjects articulate themselves. Whether the Other is summoned for confrontation or a diffuse but violent presence, we will look into different strategies to address it (withdrawal, submission, irony...). Participants will be invited to produce a text in response to these.

Duration: 3 hours

Languages : English and French
