Maru Mushtrieva

b. Kyzyl-Syr, Yakutia, Russia / Ufa, Bashkortostan, Russia / since 2006 based in Berlin, Germany. She has a background as an editor, researcher, writer, and performer and studied comparative literature at the Free University Berlin.

Her creative work, which follows on from these foundations, centers on the text and the ways in which it can be loaded, instrumentalized, and reconfigured, exploring the tension between oral and written texts, poetry and reportage, draft and master copy. Taking text as a point of departure, she is interested in putting it into dialectical relation with other media and exploring its capacities in space which led her to multiple collaborations with artists, choreographers, filmmakers, and musicians. An attempt to look at the text production outside of the usual literary practices defines most of her curatorial and artistic work.

Maru Mushtrieva is as well a translator in cultural and literarily fields (between English, German and Russian) and works for films, theater plays, and festivals as part of the production team.
