Marlena v Wedel
Marlena von Wedel studied Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and Film at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. She recently completed a curatorial master's programme at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. With a background in video art, her practice today can be located at the intersection of film and curating. Her practice is based on the understanding that the exhibition is a network of different actors that make the curatorial activity a social negotiation. She understands cinema as well as the curatorial as a profoundly collective and performative medium. Both are better negotiated as fluctuating between fiction and reality and can be used as a continuous exchange of images, ideas, thoughts and fantasies, in which neither the exhibition nor the film emerge as an end result, but as a process. Marlena’s current money job is working for the Goethe-Institut in Brussels as a cultural programmer.
