Hello Scandalous ones, 

We are thrilled for you to come and read at the first edition of The SCANDAL open mic night for poets*,  nearing the end of autumn on the 29th of November in AU JUS. 

A fellow poet and pal once asked: what kind of Scandal do you want to create?

Scandal is a form of social risk taking that changes according to social context. For one person the social risk can be reading their own text in public for the first time, for another it might be wearing ridiculous long trousers whilst attempting to read, tripping at every step, or maybe it’s choosing your worst text knowing your shame will blush you up. 

In any case, Scandalous ones, we invite you to take a social risk with us, 

whilst still playing, and taking pleasure in this particular moment as to challenge what a poetry reading should look and sound like. Just for fun. 


This edition we want to encourage each other to challenge ourselves in our models of readings

through interruption and interference. This can take many different forms, for example by using audio, a prop or a prompt, instruments, by instructing your audience, by restricting your movement, position, speech, or in the content of your text… 

*poets as a broad term that is more a way of relating to the world than a form of text-writing

Some reminders: 

• Bring your own text! We want to hear you, not some rando author. We are stars okay.

• Read in the language(s) you want 

• You have a maximum of 10 minutes per person

• The whole event will be facilitated in English, but we speak many different languages so we’ll make translation possible when needed/asked

• As mentioned, we will have a basic technical setup available in the space. There will be two microphones, a line-in for audio, a bluetooth speaker, and a projector. While there will be a "stage", you are free to make use of the space in the way that you prefer and read from different positions. The seating arrangement and the lighting are, to a certain extent, also adaptable. So, for example, if you prefer to read in the dark 🕯Or hide behind something, there will be options

• Come on time, certainly if you need to set-up some things technically or if you have questions. Doors open from 7pm on, but we will be at AU JUS from 6pm, so you're welcome to come in before the start of the event. The opening act will be at 8pm, after that the first reader will come up. See below for line-up. We will announce your name during the evening for you to come on to read. 

• If you cannot attend, please let us know by replying to this email. 

• As a small thank you, a drink will be offered for the readers.
